Standard Configuration of an Environmental Chamber
The climatic chamber is an extremely complex tool.
Finding a solution that could meet all your requirements is not easy, but definitely achievable!
In the following lines we will try to outline a basic mode, to configure a chamber with temperature and humidity control in the best possible way, starting from its standard features.
To make it easier for the sales consultant to propose the ideal environmental chamber, you should be able to communicate first:
- reference application/type of samples to be tested
- ideal temperature
- humidity, if present
- volume
All variables are directly linked to each other. For example, if humidity is not required, we refer to a temperature chamber.
The volume depends on the size of the samples and the number of samples to be tested at the same time.
In most cases, knowing the reference application gives the possibility of approximately identifying the required temperature range.
For example, for environmental tests in the military, aerospace and automotive sectors, the required temperature range will be within the -40/180° range. In this case we refer to environmental simulation chambers.

Main Accessories for an Environmental Chamber
Based on this information, it is much easier to proceed with more detailed specifications. Such as, for example:
- type of controller with which to equip the chamber
- type of lighting
Type of Controller
The type of controller is essential for the performance of your future climate chamber
Here at FDM, we distinguish between two controllers:
- stillFACE
- revoFACE
The stillFACE controller is ideal if you need to keep the temperature stable on a parameter, or if changing the temperature value is not frequent during the test. The control can therefore be managed manually, according to test requirements.
The stillFACE controller is mainly used for food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic stability tests.
Otherwise, the revoFACE controller is chosen if there is the requirement to program automatic test cycles, with different programs at different temperatures and humidity.
Illumination
Most environmental chambers are equipped with standard service lighting, to allow the operator to see inside the test environment.
In case a different kind of lighting is required, for the growth of plants, bacteria, insects, we refer to growth chambers.

- Glass door
- Ethernet interface for remote connection
- USB port for data download
The glass door might be added to check the test situation inside the chamber. Some manufacturers, like FDM, can offer lexan-made doos as an alternative, a material with the same advantages as glass, but cheaper and even more resistant.
One of the most popular options for climatic chambers is an Ethernet interface for remote connection of the instrument. Depending on the controller equipped, FDM can offer a different solution for each case.
Likewise, with a solution that is always different, depending on the type of stillFACE or revoFACE controller, FDM provides the possibility to equip your chamber with a device to download data to your PC, once the test results have been collected.
